WGC 2018 Focus: Environment & Sustainability

Environment and Sustainability will be one of the key themes for WGC 2018. Sustainable energy development is of crucial importance to the industry with most countries moving towards using natural gas as the cleanest fossil fuel for electricity generation. This theme will continue at WGC 2018:

We are working with organizations including Environmental Defense Fund, Business Council for Sustainable Energy and the Global Methane Initiative to help shape the conference program.
Rachel Kyte from Sustainable Energy for All is confirmed to speak – filter sessions on the interactive online program by ‘Environment & Sustainability’ to view other relevant topics.
Keynote Session: ‘Innovation to Drive the Energy Industry Forward features Environmental Defense Fund President Fred Krupp
The exhibition features the introduction of the Sustainable Energy Pavilion where exhibitors include Environmental Defense Fund and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy.
Our venue the Walter E. Washington Convention Center is at the forefront of environmentally-friendly initiatives, including recycling, lighting automation, a state-of-the-art HVAC system for natural ventilation and a serious overall commitment to reducing their carbon footprint.

Carbon Neutral Travel for All Delegates Visiting WGC 2018

BP is our Emissions Neutral Champion for WGC 2018. They will be offsetting CO2e emissions from all delegate flights and event shuttle buses through BP Target Neutral – which means delegates can enjoy WGC 2018 knowing that they have minimised their environmental impact and helped to take positive action on the climate challenge. The emissions are offset through investment in carbon reduction projects all over the world.

Delegates will be supporting investment in renewable energy projects like the Green Campus energy project in the US.

A network of US universities is using green finance to invest in low emissions energy like ground-source and solar in a bid to reduce campus emissions – around 95,000 tonnes of CO2e each year.

Delegates travelling to WGC 2018 are making a positive contribution to the BP Target Neutral portfolio. In 2018 we are investing in 8 carbon reduction projects in 6 countries which are:

Reducing over 2,500,000 tCO2e per year
Improving the livelihoods of over 2,200,000 people though better health
Providing education/training for nearly 5,000 people
Generating nearly 8,300 GWh of renewable energy
Supporting the protection of over 40,000 hectares of globally significant habitat
