Bob Andrew is the Technical Editor for two Gulf Publishing magazines, Hydrocarbon Processing and Gas Processing. He is responsible for accepting technical submissions, also content of Processes Handbooks, maps for Refining, Petrochemical and Gas Processing and editorial coverage of industry conferences.
He graduated from University of Auckland with an honors degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering, then taught during graduate research on Expert Systems in Steelmaking. His first decade of professional life was in Texas and Colorado, working on refinery revamps, storage terminal masterplans, wastewater and air emission controls, and industrial energy analysis. He returned to University of Auckland to teach Process Plant Design, and Process Economics, then he was seconded to the technical department of N.Z. Synthetic Fuels. His responsibilities there included training unit engineers and process debottlenecking.
Mobil, 25% owner of SynFuel, transferred him to Princeton to lead advanced real-time process analysis, then to co-lead collaborative environmental research. Bob then was chosen for a study team that took $1 billion out of Mobil’s cost of business by moving to shared services, then he lead “GENIE” project to enable global HSE best practices sharing. After Exxon acquisition, Bob stayed on in DC until his children graduated, did federal agency work in oil spill response, emergency response, geospatial intelligence.
Upon return to Texas, Bob worked on mega-projects for EPC firms on platform, refineries and integrated refinery/petrochemical sites. He continued that work in an Integrity advisory role in the Middle East for three years in oil & gas processing, then back to Texas as a Subject Matter Expert Advisor in Process, HSE and Alarm Management on an Australian mega-LNG project, before taking on his current editorial role.
