Austin Hastings serves as the Director of Central Operations Support at Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E). Hastings has spent his entire 20-plus year career at PG&E serving in a variety of roles including: construction manager; project manager; pipeline engineer; director of standards and qualifications and has held various titles as the leader of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) department within PG&E.
Hastings has been influential in the expansion of the LNG and CNG program at PG&E. In 2002, he began the coordination of new equipment and the planned growth of the program. In 2006 this led to the consolidation of all associated LNG and CNG assets into one group with the work being completed by PG&E employees. The increased demand for LNG and CNG assets and the corresponding workload for the organization required a complete integration of all associated work and asset management to be merged under Hastings’ leadership in 2011.
In 2015 Hastings served as the Senior Manager of LNG and CNG Engineering and Operations, during that time period the company successfully completed one of the largest sustained portable LNG and CNG projects in the country to support a pipeline outage during a hydrotest. The LNG and CNG operations department supplied 45,000 natural gas customers in Santa Cruz, California for more than two weeks.
From December 2015 to July 2017, Hastings served as the Director of Standards and Qualifications and was responsible for all standards, procedures and the qualifications program within PG&E. In July 2017 he became Director of Central Operations Support which returned the LNG/CNG organization under his leadership as part of a broader construction and operations support department.
Hastings graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from California State University Fresno in 1997. In 2000, he earned his professional engineering license from the state of California, also in Mechanical Engineering.
